Conference Chair
Mareen Kraus – Assistant Professor, Pediatric Radiology, Dalhousie University
Dr. Mareen Kraus, is the Scientific Meeting Chair for 2024, and is a faculty member at the IWK Diagnostic Imaging Department. She finished a fellowship in pediatric radiology at Sickkids and previously worked as a general radiologist in Tubingen, Germany. Dr. Kraus has a number of original research publications in the areas of orthopedic imaging, radiation dose reduction, and lung imaging in cystic fibrosis. Additionally, she has been actively involved in teaching throughout her career.
Breast Symposium Speaker
Dr. Carolyn Flegg – Assistant Professor, Medical Imaging, University of Saskatchewan
Dr. Carolyn Flegg is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Saskatchewan, and has been a breast radiologist in Saskatoon for 17 years. She has been the Medical Director of the Irene and Les Dubé Breast Health Centre in Saskatoon for over 10 years and Provincial Medical Director of Breast Imaging for the Saskatchewan Health Authority since August 2022. Dr. Flegg practices screening and diagnostic breast imaging and breast intervention and is the radiologist lead for the High-Risk Screening Breast MRI program in Saskatoon. She is also the radiologist lead for the Canadian Association of Radiologists Mammography Accreditation Program (CAR MAP) and a member of the CAR Breast Imaging Expert Panel.

Dr. Alan Daneman – Professor, Pediatric Imaging, University of Toronto
Dr. Alan Daneman has been at The Hospital for Sick Children since 1979 and was Radiologist-in-Chief from 1988 to 1995. He is an Honorary member of the European and Latin American Societies of Pediatric Radiology and is a Life Member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. He has 230 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has given several named lectures including the Caffey and the Kirkpatrick Memorial Lectures. He received the Jack O. Haller and the Singleton-Taybi Awards for Excellence in Teaching from the Society for Pediatric Radiology and has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Mary-Louise Greer – Professor, Pediatric Imaging, University of Toronto
Dr. Mary-Louise Greer is a general pediatric radiologist on staff at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) since 2011, where she is Co-Section Head of Body MRI, and a Professor at the University of Toronto. Australian born and bred, Dr. Greer is a medical graduate of the University of Queensland (1989) and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (2000). She completed fellowships at SickKids in body imaging, intervention and cardiac imaging. Dr. Greer served as Director of Radiology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, Australia (2003-6) and President of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Pediatric Radiology (2008-9). She sits on educational committees for the SPR, RSNA and ISMRM and is currently Secretary of the ISMRM Pediatric MR Study Group.
Dr. Greer has published over 75 peer-reviewed papers with research interests in advanced techniques in pediatric body MRI including AI/ML, focusing on oncology, inflammatory bowel disease and non-sedation practices in MRI. Her outreach endeavours include fostering a collaboration between the ISMRM and World Federation of Pediatric Imaging. Day-to-day interactions with her patients, trainees, colleagues and friends from across disciplines and in different countries are the best part of her job.
Dr. Satheesh Krishna Jeyaraj – Associate Professor, University of Toronto
Dr. Satheesh Krishna Jeyaraj is an Abdominal Radiologist at University Health Network, Sinai Health System, Women’s College Hospital and an Associate Professor in Radiology at the University of Toronto. He is the Director of Abdominal CT at Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI) and the Lead for intravenous CT contrast medium at JDMI. He is also the IT Lead for the Abdominal Division. He is actively involved in clinical research with research focus predominantly on imaging in Genitourinary malignancies. He is a member of the Society of Abdominal Radiology Disease Focused Panel (SAR-DFP) on Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) and a member of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Genitourinary Continuing Professional Improvement (CPI) Program. He is also the host of the Podcast ‘Radiologists’ which can be streamed on all podcast platforms.
Local Speakers
Dr. Andreu Costa – Professor, Diagnostic Radiology
Dr. Andreu Costa is an academic abdominal radiologist at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax and Professor at Dalhousie University. Dr. Costa was Section Head of the QEII Abdominal Imaging division from 2015-2022. Dr. Costa specializes in hepatopancreaticobiliary and oncologic imaging. His research focus includes diagnostic test performance, imaging quality, patient outcomes, and clinical practice guidelines.
Dr. Costa has published over 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts. His research has improved imaging protocols and helped develop patient pathways and regional policies in Nova Scotia. These include imaging of appendicitis, ectopic pregnancy, CT colonography, US-guided prostate biopsy, and work-up of suspected pancreatic cancer. In collaboration with the department of Urology, Dr. Costa helped deliver MR-US fusion for targeted prostate biopsy in Nova Scotia. On behalf of the Canadian Association of Radiology, Dr. Costa has co-authored national clinical practice guidelines on nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, gadolinium retention, contrast-associated acute kidney injury, and peer learning. Dr. Costa is co-Chair of a joint CAR/CSACI working group on hypersensitivity reactions to contrast media, executive member of the Canadian Society of Abdominal Radiology, member of the CARJ editorial board, and member of the Evidence-Based Working Group for the American College of Radiology Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System.
Dr. Ziad Farhat – Assistant Professor, Pediatric Radiology
Dr. Farhat is a pediatric radiologist who has done a two and a half year general pediatric radiology fellowship from the University of Calgary and one year of pediatric interventional radiology training at Sick Kids Hospital, University of Toronto. His undergrad education is Doctor of Medicine, Kursk State Medical School, Kursk, Russian Federation in 2000 and a radiology residency with a Masters Degree in Radiology, Aleppo University, Syria, 2006.
Dr. Farhat joins the team of IWK Radiologists providing day to day pediatric and women diagnostic imaging service and is a great addition to the pediatric interventional radiologist group at the IWK and members of interventional radiology group from the QEII. Active member of the Society of Pediatric Interventional Radiology (SPIR).
Dr. Daria Manos – Professor
Dr. Daria Manos is a professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Dalhousie University where she serves as the Head of Thoracic Radiology and the Associate Chair for Education. After a radiology residency at Dalhousie University, she completed a fellowship in thoracic radiology in Vancouver.
Dr. Manos is the medical lead for Nova Scotia’s Lung Screening Program and Past President of the Canadian Society of Thoracic Radiology. She teaches medical students, residents, post graduate trainees and, as an inviter lecturer, practicing radiologists around the world including as a volunteer with Radiology Across Borders. Her research interests include improved detection of early lung cancer and evidence-based cost-effective management of lung nodules.
Dr. Daddy Mata-Mbemba – Associate Professor, Pediatric Radiology
Dr. Daddy Mata-Mbemba is an Associate Professor for Diagnostic Radiology, Dalhousie University and a clinical Radiologist in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the IWK Health Centre. He has a PhD in neuroradiological science and completed a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Neuroradiology and General Pediatric Radiology at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto. Dr. Mata-Mbemba has completed interdisciplinary research at the IWK with collections of presentations, awards, publications and a YouTube channel with weekly teachings amplifying the importance of pediatric radiology nationally and internationally.
